ABOUT PERFORMANCE 101

Join Solo Chicken duo Jean-Michel Cliche and Lisa Anne Ross for a fun, accessible four week theatre basics class!  Never been on stage and want an idea of what it is all about?  Been doing a lot of improv but need some acting chops?  A public facing person who loathes giving speeches?  A seasoned pro looking for a refresh?  This class offers some important basic skills that will give participants a great foundation for all kinds of performance and public speaking.  Learn to connect with the audience and your scene partner, develop some voice and speech basics including projection, learn how to create a strong stage picture.  And of course, have some fun!

Location:  The Charlotte Street Arts Centre Auditorium (732 Charlotte Street, 2nd Floor)
Cost: Pay What You Wish (Suggested price is $115)

ACCESS INFORMATION

Solo Chicken Productions is committed to ensuring our performances and programming are as accessible as possible, which includes clarity about the level of access.  Performance 101 offers the following access:

  • Multiple facilitators who can offer additional support and coaching.

  • Comprehensive in-take form.

  • Sensory accommodations welcome.  (We have tools on-hand such as fidgets, headphones, weighted balls, and a vest.)

  • Space:  The space is accessible for participants with limited mobility/mobility aides/wheelchairs.  (The front door is not automatic.  There is a very small ramp.)

  • Washrooms:  There is a gender-neutral/wheel chair accessible washroom near the auditorium.

REGISTRATION

Solo Chicken Productions endeavours to make training available to anyone and everyone looking to learn, play and create! This class is offered through a “Pay-What-You-Can” format. You will find a suggested price listed ($125), but you are encouraged to pay the amount you feel you best fits you! That might a bit less or a bit more! Please consider that your tuition goes towards running the program itself, paying for instructor fees and space rentals, as well as supporting our projects!

Meet the instructor


Jean-Michel Cliche (he/him)

JEAN-MICHEL CLICHE is a theatre artist, improviser and educator of Lebanese and French-settler descent. He has trained with Fight Directors Canada and is now New Brunswick’s most active Fight Director and Violence Designer. As an actor, he has had the great privilege of performing in major cities across the country as well as communities of all sizes throughout the Maritimes. He has over 15 years of improv experience, including coaching the competitive team at Ecole Sainte-Anne, founding the Hot Garbage Players, and now hosting improv classes through Solo Chicken Productions. As an educator, Jean-Michel has taught drama with the University of New Brunswick and Theatre New Brunswick. He is also the Associate Artistic Director of Solo Chicken Productions! Jean-Michel loves all things games, particularly the pen and paper roleplaying variety!

Meet the instructor


Lisa Anne Ross (she/her)

LISA ANNE ROSS is a theatre artist, director, educator, and community arts practitioner who in addition to creating and directing theatre... LOVES to teach theatre!  She studied theatre at Dalhousie University, the Dell’arte School of Physical Theatre in Blue Lake California and has an MA from York University in ‘theatre as a tool for social change’.  She also has years of noodling around in all kinds of other training and methods including Clown with Sue Morrison and Viewpoints and the Suzuki Method with Kameron Steele and Ellen Lauren.  She has taught workshops and classes all across Canada, at various schools and Universities to all ages and has been teaching theatre courses at St. Thomas University since 2014.  All this to say she has a big old tool kit of theatre basics that she loves to share through an accessible and fun teaching practice.  Also she loves very stinky French cheese, swimming in all kinds of water and hanging out with her fun family.
