THE SPIRIT PROJECT

What is The Spirit Project?

The Spirit Project is a group of artists with and without intellectual and/or physical disabilities, Autism and/or dual diagnosis who have been playing, creating, and performing together for the past five years.  The creative goal of The Spirit Project is to make beautiful art that celebrates the artistic impulses of our artists and highlights the creative and community benefits of inclusion and access. 

Launched  in 2019 in partnership with L’Arche Fredericton and The Charlotte Street Arts Centre, The Spirit Project was originally intended to be one year of creative workshops.  Buoyed by the success of the workshops and the creative potential of the participants, Solo Chicken formalized the group and began facilitating the creation of collaboratively created theatrical performances.  Full steam ahead ever since, the company has created two large scale works, We Are Luminous (2021) and Hearts Above Us (2023), toured throughout NB and NS, held public concerts and taught workshops.

The Spirit Project runs on Wednesday’s from 1:00PM - 3:00PM in the Auditorium of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre, which is located at 732 Charlotte Street.

The programming is all FREE! All materials are included plus a healthy snack is offered during each workshop.

Workshops are open to all! Following in the spirit of L’Arche the workshops are meant to provide opportunities to make known the gifts of adults with intellectual disabilities and to create opportunities for folks to discover the joys of inclusion and community living. Come and make new friends and join the ‘school of the heart’.

HISTORY & PRODUCTIONS 

What began in the Spring of 2019 as ‘a year of art based workshops’ has flourished into a company of artists that have made multiple shows, toured through the Atlantic provinces, collaborated with amazing artists and shared our work through workshops, concerts and more. WE ARE LUMINOUS

WE ARE LUMINOUS is a walk through a day at The Spirit Project, featuring our warm-up, meditation, games and special performances of our Spirit Project song and poem.
