Fresh Mix

Created by SCP’s MERGE

Fall into the fuzzy, fragrant and fabulous world of Fresh Mix, an immersive theatre experience that engages your senses! The premiere work from Solo Chicken Productions MERGE artists, this play invites audiences inside the performance to taste, touch, smell, see, hear and play within a zesty and zany dreamworld!  Open to all, but created specifically for children with intellectual disabilities and Autism, the show is a multi-sensory experience intended to tickle the senses and evoke memory.

Fresh Mix is a joyful collaboration between Solo Chicken Productions and Black Box Productions, and is created and performed by MERGE artists and St. Thomas University students.  Enter our world and join us in Kyra’s Banana Apartment for a banana forward slumber party that leads Kyra and her best friend Bonnie the Banana into a festive fruit adventure.  Meet the kooky kiwi’s, party with the pineapples, float through memory with the blueberries, tickle your nose with the apples and meet Grampa Mild and the Cantaloupe Story Miners.  A gentle, delightful adventure for all!

What is “Immersive Theatre”?

Unlike traditional theatre, immersive theatre invites audiences to actively participate in the show instead of just observing! Fresh Mix will offer audiences the chance to engage with the show in a variety of ways,  including joining performers on stage, touching props and eating snacks! This playful, flexible performance style makes for a more inclusive environment, breaking down the formal expectations of theatre and allowing audiences to engage as they wish!

About MERGE

MERGE is an initiative created by Solo Chicken Productions that brings together a team of professional artists with and without intellectual and/or physical disabilities, Autism and/or dual diagnosis, whose creative goals are to train, share skills and build a new innovative creative language.  MERGE was designed to create Real Work for Real Pay for artists who have been traditionally excluded from the employment sector.  All our artists are paid equally and hired because they are the right person for the job.

Partnership with Black Box Productions

The MERGE team are artists-in-residence at St Thomas University from January - May 2026. Fresh Mix was created in partnership with STU’s Black Box Productions and features performances from St Thomas University students.
