EMBODI-ODI-ODIED MOVEMENT CLASS
ABOUT EMBODI-ODI-ODIED
Dance Artist and Solo Chicken Productions Intern, Shelby Harnish (she/they), is hosting a six-week movement class focused on finding the joy in sexuality through movement. Embodi-odi-odied welcomes folks whose experiences of oppression (given their gender, sexuality, disability, age, race, religion or class) have left them out of touch with their bodies — resulting in a disembodied experience of being. It is exclusively geared toward members of the LGBTQI+ and/or 2STNBGN communities. This collaborative class will incorporate topics of embodiment and sexuality, in hopes of creating a considerate and compassionate space for creation. Participants will be invited to explore how movement can be used, not only to encourage individuality and diversity in a group setting, but to celebrate it!
The group will gather once a week in a supportive environment to move, connect, and play with Shelby, as they each develop a movement practice that honours the unique experience of existing as an embodied sexual being. Everyone involved can expect to collaborate in the exploration of flexible creation methods, meant to discover the joy in sexuality through movement, in the studio.
No previous dance experience is required!
Dates: Sunday May 18 – Sunday June 22 (Six Classes)
Time: 7PM-9PM
Location: Charlotte Street Arts Centre (Siamsa Dance Studio, 1st Floor)

Shelby Harnish (she/they)
Shelby Harnish is a queer, polyamorous, and neurodivergent dance artist, and social science academic, whose commitment to fostering community radiates from their art. Their uniquely fluid and dynamic movement practice realizes possibilities of resistance toward, and reform within, social structures via embodiment – merging passions of social justice and sexuality to create works that are both sexy and silly. Combining her creative, curious, and collaborative hats, Shelby presents this lab with intentions of mobilizing the expansive perspective of embodied sexual liberty for marginalized folks, and beyond.
